Matching Animals
Matching Animals is a fun, low-prep visual discrimination game designed to strengthen essential pre-reading skills through play. Using a "domino-style" matching format, children visually scan, compare, and match animal pictures that look the same — helping the brain learn to notice small but important differences.
Visual discrimination is a critical foundation for reading development. It supports accurate letter recognition, reduces common reading errors (such as b/d or p/q confusion), and improves attention to detail, memory, and writing accuracy. This game is especially effective for young learners, struggling readers, and children with learning delays.
Matching Animals is also a powerful vocabulary-building tool, making it ideal for ESL/EAL learners who benefit from repeated exposure to clear, engaging visual language.
Designed by Remedial Specialist, Annemarie Roux and aligned with the Science of Reading, this resource turns foundational skill-building into joyful learning.
